Truthfully I’ve wanted to work with Commune for years. And this year I was lucky enough to photograph their “Great Commune Shop Experiment”. Frankie got in on it too lol!

I’m updating this newsletter from my hometown of Detroit while I brace myself for what they're calling a “blizzard of our generation”. Something about being back here this time feels different, I have to admit. It’s the first time I've come to fully appreciate it for what it is and what it has to offer. Detroit is undoubtedly a unique place and not one easily understood from the outside. What makes Detroit so special, what makes Detroit’s music scene so special, is the emphasis on community. Detroit people care for their neighbors. Care for their friends and family. Deeply. You can feel the vibrations in the music. I’ll never forget the night I saw Theo Parrish at Spot Lite. At one point I stepped back to observe the crowd move to the rhythm like a fabric blowing in the wind. They were in unison. It was beautiful to visualize that moment in the room where everyone was loving exactly where they were and who they were with. No ruckus, no disrespect. No cameras even. No visual relics of the night to prove that I cried my eyes out to Barrington Levy’s The Vibes is Right. Just, enjoying the music together. How simple and lovely honestly. It felt like a turning point in my musical journey because I believe it set a new standard of what experiencing music with your community can truly feel like. Never to be topped, that night.
Thank you to each reader and client who walked with me through this full year of production. I feel appreciated by those who believed in me and trusted me with their creations. Your loyalty means the world. Thank you.
Have a happy and healthy Holiday this year.
