Last year I met Catherine, Nakajeem, in Mid-City at her recently completed project One Museum Square. On site she explained her graphic design background, her love for fine art, and how she transitioned into the role of interior designer on this massive new development adjacent to LACMA. With architectural design by HBA, Catherine and her team spent 4 years on every detail you could possibly touch or notice. If I could note anything about this project, it is texture. The feeling of this place is immaculate. Having spent 5 years working in Japan, Catherine completed this 21-story high-rise with worldly tastes and grace. And shooting it was equally as enjoyable. What was one day turned into three and we found ourselves talking so much we’d miss our light and have to return. I’m also so grateful for this particular project because in the end I earned not only a portfolio I am proud of but a true friend that is just as much as a music nerd as I am. Speaking of which,
WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO
While taking stock of the year as a whole we found we each had a soundtrack we lived to. It felt fitting to create a collaborative playlist for your curiosity, but also for us to see between the two of us what left impressions. Mutually we looked back on this year as one where we discovered something deeper about ourselves. We reunited with friends and old but familiar places, weathered some challenging times, found the track to accompany some sadness. New hobbies, realizations about play/work balance, travel, falling in love…with yourself and your life, and rediscovering tracks that helped us connect with each of those areas. Music has an incredible quality of cementing our life into our memory. Now, we have a playlist to show for it.
Re: 2022 / Spotify
This won’t be the last you hear from me before the end of the year. Stay for more.
