Rebranding Fyrn
This past spring I was introduced to FYRN and their initiative to reimagine the brand’s identity. “Quiet strength” or “quiet confidence” were repeated sentiments that I understood because those are qualities I look for in the work I follow and the people I surround myself with. I just knew immediately how they presented themselves landed right. I liked how unwavering they were with their ethos. And the more I learned the more interested I became with what they had to say on their place within the furniture industry. There are so many companies out there that pledge a “Green” allegiance but surprisingly have awful business practices. With Fyrn however there are no exceptions to quality or to sustainability, and this 100% mirrors how they run their business as a whole.
Fyrn is relatively young but with a long lineage back to 19th century woodworking with all of the production happening in The Mission of San Francisco and soon to be Reno. The last time I was up north I had a tour of the factory with co-founder David Charne. The space was compact but economized to the most lean and efficient state. I saw everything from wood-oxidizing stations to 3D printers for prototyping. And plenty of chair legs and leather seats I came to know so well just sitting pretty ready for assembly.
These designs are unique - officially patented joinery that fits the wooden pieces alike. The team also invented machinery to service areas of additive manufacturing in efforts to speed up prototyping, reduce waste and streamline fabrication. You just won’t find anything else like it. Dave was also explaining to me that by considering the packaging needed for shipments this informed how the furniture was initially designed. The least amount of packaging waste as possible while safely delivering your order. So when Fyrn speaks to their efforts to be as conscientious of the planet as possible they really do walk the walk. You can just see it.
I’m grateful I could work with creative directors Jesse and Nikki, and Dave and Dani from Fyrn to set a new visual language for the brand. This is all that I’ve ever wanted: To work with a company that cares about the future of our planet for generations to come all the while embracing our human need for beauty. Thank you Fyrn team + my amazing crew.
